I get that, but I always manage to do something to the screen or bezel to damage them. Less the screen, but it happens.

Do you use the device without a cover? I always use a cover.

Only needed if you don't want the weight of a cover. I liked the non-slipperyness of the Nook and original Nook Glo and never wanted a cover (Glo3 has a cover). But yeah, glass can scratch. My late sister's glass top on her Fire tablet had lots of little scratches. I had a matte plastic on my first Fire (mostly to protect against the cat's nails when playing cat TV). It muted the color but did not otherwise affect text. Yes, and it's true. I took better care of my stuff than my late sister.

Hard to get on correctly. They get Dirty too! I suggest you Clean the screen before you read.

IF you want to protect the bezel https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...QGUGPEMU&psc=1

I have rarely used them on other devices, and not at all on any recent devices including my last 2 phones (both of which had Corning Gorilla glass) and my last tablet. All of these had quality cases, and my usage was such that I didn't have big issues with screen damage.

But now my usage has changed a bit, and a few in this thread have alluded to similar usage. Besides my other devices, I recently upgraded for readers and now own a Kobo Forma, and a Kindle PW4. The way I like to use these is without a case to keep the weight down. Given that, there's probably increased risk of scratching the Kindle when I shove it in a pocket (since it is going to be my 'portable' reader, while the Forma will stay home). I'm going to try one of the well rated (ArmorSuit) matte screen protectors and see if, like @HarryT mentioned, I run into any kind of issue with reduced visibility.
