You need to eject the card before connecting the device to the PC. Once that is done ADE cannot see anything about those books. That is how it has always worked. You could possibly eject/unmount the card from the PC with Linux, but, Windows wouldn't allow you to do this.

You are correct, my wording was inexact.

On both mac and linux, I unmounted (not ejected) the sd card from the operating system after plugging in the device before starting ADE. Also, a small number of books always sneak into the main memory, and I was annoyed every time that ADE indexed those and remembered them (even after I deleted them from the device).

ADE doesn't notice books it doesn't manage on the device any more.
I don't know if there's a way to tell it to look if you did want it to.

I think I ran ADE in windows once. I probably didn't plug in my device.
