Interesting. So there's probably some other setting I need to fix (if I can find it ). I've looked through all the conversion settings and as far as I can see I've done what you've done -- turn off any Calibre features that try to be "clever".

I decided to report this as a bug, since it produces unreadable output on the device the converted file will be used on (even though it looks fine in the Calibre viewer):

Agreed. Something is being over-engineered here. The W3C specs indicate that font-size keywords are up to the user agent to interpret — not the authoring environment. Keywords like "xx-large" should just pass thru to the user agent. That way we can blame the Kindle/Kobo/Galaxy Tab rather than Calibre!
