I used this one, remove the jumper and attach the voltage wire in addition to TX RX and GND and it works just fine.

Yes it can be. If the jumper is on, power is provided from the USB side and will be 3.3v or 5v. If you remove the jumper completely, power will come from the Kindle board itself, which is why you'll need to solder/tap a fourth wire for power to the board. The kindle provides 1.8v.
Where to solder or pin: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/at...1&d=1447624524 Where to connect wires to the board: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/at...3&d=1516804315 |

Very cool you found it! Not sure what you are asking with the cable. I don't think that one you linked will work well. It's 5v only it looks like.

@stmusic: There are over 110 Kindle variants, you'll have to be a little more precise.

PW4 wifi, good pw, i type ";demo" and not use wifi and pw 4 now stuck in demo mode.
I use serial cable and what need to do now ? On enter in putty i have this: Menu ==== 3. Load MMC over USB storage E. Export FAT partition U. Update using update*.bin file on FAT partition D. dmesg / kernel printk ring buffer. Q. quit On 3 not working, how to see storage on kindle ? Update: I try E. Export FAT partition and now i see partition of kindle, what to do next, what to upload on pw4 memories, which fw ? I resolve this with DO_FACTORY_RESTORE in demo folder. But still is my question only for curiosity : When i do E. Export FAT partition what to upload on pw4 memories, which fw is good solution ? Last edited by stmusic; 03-21-2019 at 08:31 PM. |

Your choice of update packages posted by Amazon for your device.
(They only list the most recent, but you can get older by just changing the URL version field.) Export to USB Put package at top of visible USB storage Remove USB cord Reboot |

So I'm back to a state where I can mount my FAT32 partition and feed it an update but little else. I foolishly updated it to 5.11.2 this way (should have tried the latest factory image in hindsight) - so I think I'm out of options unless/until a later factory image comes along. A bit of a bummer that they're making these things harder to repair. I don't really want to toss this thing in to landfill over a software bug. Code:

You can skip all of that theorizing.
The Kindle fastboot can not load the rootfs.img file, file is too big and the Kindle fastboot can not detect the failure. |
