Now I wonder whether it's a driver problem. The Sony software and Calibre use the same drivers and fight.
See this thread for a solution:

Calibre needs a separate driver only for PRS-500, so it's not that.
julia, what error do you get when installing eBook Library?

I agree. So does Kovid. But Julia may inadvertently have downloaded the unnecessary driver. The man himself advises in a similar situation:

"just uninstall calibre, it will remove the drivers and re-install it (this time dont install the drivers when it asks during the installation)"

The newest versions don't even ask if you want to install it.

Back to the original topic, will finally SONY offer books from French/UK/Irish/whatever bookstores? I am curious how they are going to handle this on the common market. & if they are going to pose any restrictions on CC billing address. Under EU Law that would be illegal .
I also have the US 505 version & wonder if will be able to use SONY EU bookstore.
By the way, its pretty histerical to have nation based bookstores instead for going EU wide with 22 language support (for those living here & buying products with small print on the lables in all those fantastic lingo-variations . Lets see how it develops.

They are doing. If you buy a Sony Reader in the UK or Ireland, the supplied software connects you to the Waterstones eBook store. They've signed a similar deal with a French eBook store for the French release of the Reader.

so I gather no dedicated EU Sony Connect store? I would imagine that they could replicate the US setup similar to EU based Amazon or EBay.

does it mean harry that living in another european country (the netherlands in my case) sony will still not be connecting to an ebook store? haven't noticed a deal between sony and a major bookstore in this country.

I do wonder how are they going to solve it, selling Sony Readers will not be so easy, especially with different Member States book prices, VAT's , CopyRights, on & on + my favorite -> languages. Will be fun. On the other hand now having Calibre and being able to convert to EPub do not need Sony Store anymore
