Not to create a new thread, but what's the deal?

Is the V9 series dead? Where these just hopeful mock ups?

No, it is awaiting the release of plastic substrate. The glass substrate was deemed too accident prone on the larger screen. Once the plastic substrate is released we are likely to see a flood of 9.7" devices.

I hope the up the specs. Those specs are showing some age.
Still impressive.

Yes, I would expect that the products they really offer will be quite different from the ones on the web site. There were prototypes built from those on the site but without an expensive heavy frame to provide stability they broke very easily by twisting and nothing can prevent the direct pressure on the screen. I am surprised that Amazon went ahead but I would expect them to replace the model they have once the new plastic backed screens are available from PVI.

This thread started in 2008, I"m asking this again in 2010 - jun.
Is the V9 dead or they are still sorting out the technical issues ?

The product depended on a 9.6" screen from PVI. It was determined ages ago that a glass screen would be too fragile. I no longer see the V9 in the list on the Jinke page although Netronix still shows a 9.7 as being available in the future. I suspect that if Astak releases a 9.7 it will be in the Mentor line and will wait until plastic substrate screens are available.

Having said that I think there will be the 9" A9 from Jinke that they have on their web site at some point, probably sometime in late September (just a guess with a little inside knowledge).

Dale...You were right on the button kid. The jinkie has a updated "new products page".
and V90 is scheduled to release around October 2010. I don't know about Jinkie ie. if
it will stick to its words or just play around with the dates. This is definitely good news
for all waiting for a large screen. Any interesting tid bits are always welcome.

I think the V90 is similar to the A9k except it uses eink instead of sipix. I don't know if that means sipix isn't going to make it to the market any time soon. If that is the case then the Asus dr 950 will likely be delayed also. If the v90 uses pearl and is under $350US then it will make an attractive alternative to the Kindle DX with its large file format compatability. There have been so many announcements by Jinke, along with other companies to numerous to mention, regarding a 8"+ eink screen that I won't hold my breath.

The A9 is available for sale direct from Jinke - it has the 9" SiPix display.
