I would, at least, have a confirmation dialog.

Ok ok, with confirmation dialogue, it is a lot harder than simple rm, but still... it is a simple task. I've programmed few PC software (win, linux) and some microcontrolers, so I know what I am talking about..

I think they have decided they will get more complaints from people deleting a book by mistake if the delete button work then the complaints they get not. And they might be right since it is pretty easy pressing the D-pad in the wrong way so even a confirmation dialog might not be enough.

Imagine typical Yes/No question dialogue. If the default selected will be No, You will have to press left button and subsequently middle button to delete it. IMHO it is almost foolproof.

Maybe. But they have still some bug which causes the middle button to be "pressed" in some situations when you are not pressing it at all so it is not fool proof if you take into accounts other bugs or limitations.

On the Kindle you have to go to a separate area, content manager, to delete books and move them from memory to card. The jet Book also has a separate file manager area.

I do agree just pressing the delete button from any place to delete a book is a bit dangerous.

I don't. Simply making the Delete button context sensitive in that it only fires up the 'Delete' dialog sequence when in the Library mode and then having both a Yes/No followed by an 'Are you sure?' Yes/No dialog would guarantee that an ebook and associated files are only deleted on purpose.

This is NOT rocket science, people.

IMHO the real flaw is the button itself.

I can imagine a lot of things where a direct access button would be great (dict-lookup, bookmark, etc.) - instant delete is definitely not one of these.

I guess nobody would mind to go through a series of points in the menu to delete a book (makes it even more foolproof actually).

I'm really hoping for the developers to spend the time on making the button configurable, I would even trade the whole delete-funcion in for that (I can only get more books onto my Cybook when it's connected to the pc - I can wait until then to delete others).

I'm obviously missing something, here, but given the fact that one can only add content to the Gen3 via a PC, what is the issue with only being able to delete via a PC?

If there was a way to "hide" (not delete) books from the library view, maybe having a button/function for that could be useful. But I agree with HarryT, I don't need a delete function at all.

The issue is that it is more work to use a PC to "hide" a file. The filenames are not displayed to it can be hard to find the correct file to remove or move. Also if you read 10 short stories at a time you have to remember exactly which you read to remove them.

This is the very problem I've encountered. I really have no idea which is which, so I have to open each file and see if it is needed.
Hope the "delete" button will be activated in the next release.
