LoL: Both of you are using the "right" word
google for doxies and you get lot of pages on:

Miniature Dachshund dog

but also

According to Free Dictionary dot com

dox·y (dks)
n. pl. dox·ies Slang
1. A female lover; a mistress.
2. A sexually promiscuous woman.

It's a factor with all of them. They really aren't that fragile - just avoid forces that "twist" the case and you'll be fine. They are relatively immune to straightforward bumps and knocks.

I imagine that if my Gen3 had been stepped on by the doxies in definition #2 (per Indigo Ink) the screen would certainly be broken ...

dunno about the one % bit..

My book died 1 week after I got it and a replacement took 5 weeks....I preordered and waited so I finally got a real working one after 2 1/2 months of waiting for it...........

Bookeen support sucked at that point & I did a straw poll of the number of people that had problems....here

https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17831

That being said the only think superior to Cybook is a tablet PC...and their batteries suck.....

Compared to the sony ...irex..the cybook tops...now the only thing that make me buy something else is a 8-9 inch touchscreen e-ink...reader that you write notes on....hand written...

I would go for the cybook...but the Bebook seems to be good competition as well

My first CyBook came with a defective screen; it didn't refresh properely so there was a very noticeable and very annoying ghosting effect.
I have it changed under warranty through my local official Reseller. The carrier who brought to my home the new CyBook collected my old broken one too.
It took in total a couple of days to have a brand-new reader in my hands, since my first complaint mail.

Since then I had no problem whatsoever with the new reader.

Just back from 3 weeks of continuous hiking with a backpack in France. I carried the Cybook in my fannypack (I think that's how these things are called) and had it mostly in its case.
Temperatures were not very extreme but sometimes humid.

No problems whatsoever.
I don't think of my Cybook as something that breaks easily and I don't treat it very carefully. It's meant to be used.

I hope others have the same experience..

I didn't purchase a case from Bookeen. Instead my wife made one from a DVD case.
While I don't abuse it, I carry it with me from time to time. The DVD plastic case is very strong. No problems in the past year or so.
I would say it is very reliable and robust. Of course, a decent case is necessary when being carried a lot.

I finally had a lockup yesterday with the current firmware. Reset did fix it, but I was surprised.

I am using my Cybook for exactly 8 weeks now, which means I have taken it to work exactly 36 times.
While traveling I always have it in my backpack, between a (paper) notebook and my lunchbox, inside its (very nice) black cover.

So far, so good, but with only two months of use there can't be said much about the durability of course.

The software is rather good, I have had 3 or 4 freezes, 2 with PDF's the old firmware couldn't handle (so they don't really count) and two with the new firmware after a 'full-charge' of the battery (where have we heard that story before? ).

At the moment my conclusion is that ,with normal care, the Cybook is well apt to its task. I hope I still can say the same a year from now

That rather sounds to me as if the page flash was turned off.

So I see. The ghosting looks much as I expected, apart from only being on the right hand side.

I think the Cybook is quite reliable. I bought one for Xmas 2007 and it's still going strong. The 512 I bought, so that Hubby could have my original, is working fine as well. Even though it has been dropped a few times, sometimes out of it's cover. Recently it was knocked out of my hands hard enough onto the Ferry floor that it had to be reset and the top right of the case was out of alignment and had to be "snapped" back in place. Two weeks later and it is working just as well as it did before, I think the cover saved it this time.

I have had the Cybook for seven months now, and never bothered to get the extra case. I like it small and light. I dropped it on my hardwood floor once, and the plastic cover tore open from one corner, but I just squeezed it and it snapped right back.

I get occasional freezes, especially when booting up, and need to reset and reboot. I suspect the cause is my cheapo-bulk-brand SD card. It does not bother me much.

I second that. However, considering how the books I've brought on backpacking trips so far looked after the trip, I'd still be very reluctant to bring the Cybook.

(Okay, so they were cheap paperbacks. Nonetheless I'd rather trash a book with a value of about 10 € than my shiny Cybook.)
