Ha... believe it or not, people don't want to learn to use the command line. I was actually thinking of creating a MIME/File association so when you double clicked a LIT file it would automatically run clit on it and do a downconvert. If I can get it working, don't see why not then I will post instructions here. Would that be breaking the "we don't tell people how to remove DRM" rules?

I mean... we've actually basically told all the info here on how to do it... just not all step by step in one message or document.

Bob, they would still have to setup ConvertlIT so no, it would not be telling people how to do it. In a file association, how would you get it to choose the file name for the converted file?

With a file association you have the ability to form a command line based on the file clicked. There is a place holder for the file name clicked on, and I think the path too and also the current directory. This is how Word starts when you double click on a .doc file. Also, you can set up right click associations... so if you right click on a .doc file and choose print it knows what command to send to Word.

Right click on a DOC file and see how it is different menu than if you right click on say an ini file. Take a look at the file associations for a .doc file to see this. This is all built into the Windows shell.

Sorry, if I wasn't clear they would be double clicking on the .LIT file that they want converted.

ConvertLIT needs two arguments. The original file name and the filename for the DRM free file. How do you plan to pass on the second file name?

I will just mung the name. For example, take the original name and add _nodrdm to it or something.

You need to run the "ReaderKeyRecoveryTool" program, which is in the same ZIP file as the "ConvertLIT" program. See the "Readme.txt" file for details.

An interesting benefit of this file association is that now the .lit conversion can be automated using batch files.

In the DOS Command Prompt, typing 'start /wait filename.lit' will have the same effect as double-clicking the .lit file. A batch file with one such line per .lit file to be converted can then be used to automate this process. You would have to add a part in the batch file to convert the .html to .lrf using your favorite conversion tool, though.

This is the approach I took when when converting .lit to .imp using Lit2sb.

It works quite well!

What do you mean? Why do you need one line per lit file? Can you just use the for command?
