I'm never gonna get you lot to Australia, am I?

(Note, link NSFW - much swearing. Also NSFZelda - contains picture of big funnelweb spider)
http://www.badassoftheweek.com/australia.html

I once nearly trod on a Red-bellied Black Snake warming itself on a step on a bushwalk. We also had one "chase" us back up the hill of a ski run in summer (I suspect it was just trying to get back to its safe-spot when we scared it, and we were in the way). We've had heaps of White-Lipped Snakes scooting off the path in front of us while walking up above the treeline in the Snowy Mountains National Park in summer. I also had to kill, with a large rock, a Red-Bellied Black that had been run over by a car on a dirt road in Kanangra-Boyd National Park. My grandparents had a 2-metre Carpet Python on their property, mostly living around the old shed cement slab, that the Kookaburras would bother when it ventured over their side of the property. It would give you a scare when it moved out of the grass next to you and away. Maggie (one of my dogs) tried to chase an even bigger Carpet Python off the path down in Noosa Woods. We met a Tree Snake on the ground on one of our morning dog walks - got close to treading on that one too, especially the dogs.

Only the Red-Bellied Blacks were in any way "dangerous" in the above though. As a kid, I (well, my brother - but I'd pretend it was mine) used to have a dead sea snake in a jar too, found on Stockton Beach.

So, when you visiting?

Cheers,
Marc

Yup ... that's a rattler. I can tell from the coloration and the way it is moving and striking.

That was just plain one great video.

My cats have killed several rattlers in the house. So far it is cats 5, rattlers 1 in the ongoing battle.

I was pretty nonchalant about the scorpions, but this is pushing my limit. (On the positive side, my 17-year-old is looking less and less menacing....)

My wife and I have had rabbits as pets for most of our marriage and the Bun-bun displayed in the video is typical. Some friends came to visit and brought their "aggressive" lab, within 10 minutes the lab was totally cowed by our rabbit that was less than 1/10th the size of the lab.

Two of my dogs got into a fight with a cat once. Both came out of the fight smelling of cat pee, but fortunately only one needed to be treated for scratch marks (on the eye).

The cat was unharmed, as far as I can tell.

Yes .. rattlers in the house. I am convinced that the one cat I lost just jumped off the cat platform and right on top of a snake. It could not have been a fair fight.

Although ... all cats I have known ... including mine ... have a healthy respect, if not outright fear, of the bun-buns.

Just showed this to my husband (who still has scars from his sister's earlier incarnation of Bun-bun, going by the alias "bonny-bonny-bonny" at the time). His reaction: "Does it have a family nearby or something? I just can't think of what would make a rabbit act that way, otherwise." Apparently it was the persistence of the lupine in question that he found remarkable. (And perhaps its dodging skill-- we speculated on whether there might be some mongoose in its ancestry.)

We both agreed that it would be best to stay away from trees with bunnies under them.
