At least for the Note, the weight factor may also have been a primary consideration. After all, I have a 10.!" tablet which works just fine with a glass screen. However, it is much heavier than the Note.

Quite agree with that. Since they know about the problem, they should be applying the screen protector at the manufacturing stage. At the very least, they should provide customers with several screen protectors free of charge.
