My guess is Amazon is dumping the 32GB PW because of the 7" 32GB Oasis. The 7" screen is better for Manga.

Quite a huge difference in price though. The 32GB Oasis is more than double the price of the PW Manga in Japan and I think too expensive for casual readers. Besides, Amazon never officially carried the Paperwhite Manga model in the US.

There's probably just no market for used/refurbished Paperwhite in Japan at the price point Amazon wants. Iirc, used electronics can be really cheap over there.

P.S. Unlike in the US where single issue comic pamphlets are treated as collectibles, manga is considered cheap, disposable entertainment. I doubt majority of manga readers would spend a lot of money on the higher end Oasis.

Brand new Paperwhite Manga model are still readily available and sold alongside 32GB 7" Oasis on Amazon JP. Again, the PW3 on Woot are just used models (which probably would have sold at half-price or less in Japan).

And I'd like to reiterate, the Paperwhite and Oasis target different market segments.

What can you do to make a PW better for Manga? You can increase the screen size. But that's already been done with the Oasis2. And when you increase the screen size, you are going to also increase the price.

Again, I'm just saying Amazon is not replacing the Paperwhite Manga model with the Oasis. That's just too expensive and I'm sure Amazon would like to sell Kindle edition manga not just to rich customers.

The Oasis is the high end model and the Paperwhite is the budget model. Both can coexist. It doesn't have to be one or the other.

I almost bought this one, but decided to wait and see if a new Paperwhite sold in the US is going to be 32g also. They might not sell a Magna version, just the 32g .

The Manga version is the regular version just with 32GB because Manga is all graphics and take up much more space.

The only difference between the Paperwhite Manga model and the regular Paperwhite is storage (32GB vs 4GB). That's it. Amazon estimates the 32GB Manga model can store ~700 volumes of manga. Nothing else special about it.

When considering the choice between the PW and the larger Oasis 2, another factor to consider is portability. The larger screen of the Oasis is great, but the device is almost square, and you really need a bag to carry it in. You can slip the PW into a pocket - it's much more portable.
