Would you really want to read a whole book with two pages, increase by one? Why would you want two columns if you are only going to read one of them? And going to the setup to change it and then change it back is very cumbersome. I stand by my recommendation.

For reference, most recently this type of feature seemed handy when reading PDFs that discussed mathematical proofs. There was a fair bit of referring to previous figures / diagrams throughout.

It's not the whole book, it's for those sections of technical books in which it is useful to keep the former page at hand - e.g. logical theorems. You read the right one and keep the left one for reference. I think it can be a good idea.
The setup in Librera is an icon in the toolbars: center tap to show the toolbar, tap on the relevant toolbar menu icon, tap on the option, center tap for fullscreen - it's doable.

If the page of reference is "current-1", as it often is for analytical flowing text, the setting is equivalent to "double page, advance by one".

In principle, an extra feature is not a bad idea, supposing that someone may use it.

A side by side two documents view could work for this. One could open two instances of the same book, keep one of them in the page where the diagram, the formula, whatever wants to keep fixed and read on the other document...

Sometimes it is not as simple as that, it has to be a feature of the app. Even if the OS allows side by side view of 2 different apps, it is not guranteed to work. You increase difficulty 2 fold - first you want to have the same app open with 2 different instances and then you also want both instances to open the same book. Sounds trivial and simple, but it is not.

In practice, I would use different readers (native, Librera, PDF reader...)
Which is also what I would do in the current state, i.e. without the multi-window split-screen feature, if I had to jump frequently from document to document: many apps and the "recent tasks" icon.

Until a good app implements multi-document opening... Ivan told me that he was considering the feature, but that it would take a lot of development time.

I would like Android Nougat, since it would allow split-screen with any two selected apps, so I could keep FBreader on the left side and Quizlet on the right side.

I also mentioned the interest about "annotating on the reader", and it is confirmed that it's an interesting feature but it would take much time to implement it, so it cannot have a high priority.

I have the max (not carta and not 2). For me there are only three features I need. Actually - the first would be enough.

1. Make the pen software compatible with other android apps that work with pens. Onyx doesn't need to invent everything - just work with a developer of one good note-taking app, and make it compatible, or even better make them all compatible. For example Xodo!!!! (or squid, lecturenotes, onenote, evernote...)

If that if not possible, I just need these two

2. Save annotations directly as PDF on the pdf file. So, if I open a pdf from dropbox with "open with...", and make changes on the doc, then the annotations are automatically returned to dropbox.

3. Export notes as one continuous pdf, or sync with something that can do this. E.g. evernote.

That's it, that's all I wanted since the original max days. Now, several models later, this simple request is still not met...

That does not need Onyx. All it needs is the interest of the said developer.
(Or any developer, if the note-taking app is open source.)

That is true, though it hasn't worked yet. But Onyx could provide a financial incentive.
