am blind and confused
![]() from wiki - Will this jail break work on my current firmware? If the third field of your firmware version number: 5.8.7.0.1 is larger than 7 this jail break will not work on your device. That means it will not work on: 5.8.8, 5.8.9, 5.8.10, ..., 5.8.99999999. (It's NOT possible at this time to downgrade and use this jailbreak) |

Right Now I'm trying to downgrade to version 5.6.0 but is useless. I put the firmware in the root directory but the update button is gray out? How do I downgrade to a lower version? I tryied with 5.6.0 but it gives me an error update error 16

@02xda2:
If you read a bit further in the jail break thread you will find that there is a set of special exceptions which are too difficult (for me) to describe in words. @donMaranzano: If the file you tried to install, would not install, then we both now know that the combination of your KT2 and the firmware version it is (was when you tested it) running is not one of the exceptions. Thanks for the testing. I do not recall any jail break that ever involved "burning a cd" for any Kindle. Unless you are writing about using KUBRICK to de-brick your K5 (which can install a jail broken, Amazon image). Last edited by knc1; 02-05-2018 at 02:59 PM. |

Okay, so as far I understand I can not downgrade from 5.8.11 version to some version which I can jailbreak. Yes, exactly wa KUBRICK.

https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=294562 There just isn't an easy to explain pattern, if there is any pattern at all. It will most likely not matter in the near future. The after-market add-ins for the grayscale Kindles is on life support now, just waiting for Amazon to pull the final plug. |

There are few tutorials/threads available, if you are really ready and willing to do any such exercise and has the expertise to follow them. All the Best |

The title of the threads (which can not be changed even by the post owner) typically mention the device and/or firmware version that was used in the examples.
They are not a limiting condition. With the exception of the two Oasis models (serial port has not been identified on either), all touch screen devices use the same procedures when dealing with them over the serial port. De-bricking, down grading, modifying, whatever... All same-same, of course when files are needed, they need to be proper for the device model. But procedure and practices are same-same. |
