I've tried two cards, but maybe thirds the charm...I'll pick a new one up today. I haven't tried the reset button, good thought. And I haven't tried blowing in the slot. I'll try all of the above and see what happens.

Thanks very much for your suggestions.

blowing into the slot is good for removing dust, but unfortunately carries the risk of moisture deposits and even worse !!!

though by now you should be on the third SD card and hopefully that's the lucky one ...

As mentioned before, change of cards did not help, formatting did not help either, so I think the SD slot is probably damaged.
Since the unit comes with the 512 MB of flash memory I find this sufficient so I can live without SD cards.
I did not get any reasonable reply from Booken, so if I get really desperate I will send it back during warranty period, otherwise it shall serve it purpose as such.

Unfortunately, what you CAN'T do without a functioning SD slot is to upgrade the firmware, so if a firmware update which has significant new functionality appears, you won't be able to apply it .

... and there is an amazing one of these coming up - I would not keep a defective device and hope not to need the sd-card if I where you, the sooner you send it to bookeen the better the chances are that you get it repaired under warranty!

...well, the new update is promised to include foldersupport and a few goodies (total pages on the goto-page-dialog, batterymeter on in the reader-statusbar,...)...
...and if Bookeen-devs stick to their "rhythm" we can expect the update before Christmas.

This is no definite information, only what I put together from several forumposts - mingled with all my hope and anticipation - and I am sure I'm not the only one looking forward to that update

My point was mainly for promo to be prepared when(ever) the update comes, as otherwise he might be frustrated ending up with the only cybook without foldersupport.

You *DO* know that 'before Christmas' is meaningless as Christmas comes every year.

I have tried three SD cards from three different companies, reformatting the cards, hitting the reset button, blowing in the SD slot, and lighting candles (Just kidding about that last one). I have come to the sad conclusion that the SD card reader on my slot is defective.

Having only just gotten my reader back from Bookeen I was going to just deal with it (like promo) but now that I realize I can't upgrade my reader without it. I will contact them and see how I can get it resolved. (Sigh)
