While this is very sound advice, there are some books on Google Play Books that offer no downloadable EPUB nor PDF files. I have about 110 books I've purchased via Google Play Books, and about nine offer no downloadable files. You can only read them via the Google Play Books website or the Google Play Books app. Of course, there's no mention of this prior to actually purchasing the book.

That's really weird, I have never happened to buy a book from Google Play I could not download. What kind of books are they? Novels? Mangas? Non-fiction books?

I have ran across a very few google play books that have a "this may not be compatible with a smartphone " warning. All of those were because the "I can't read" author only uploaded a pdf.

I've used Reader for PC and I've never had any books disappear. But I put all of my eBooks in Calibre and the DRM (if any) goes away. It just works very well. Also, Calibre works very well with Sony Readers.

I use reader for PC for books bought from Google. I've not had any problems with any disappearing.

I've not had a problem with any books disappearing from Google Play, but I have encountered the cannot download option on several books. The option simply is not there.

After several go rounds with customer service I was told to be sure the books have "eReaders" listed under the 'Best For' section. Otherwise there isn't a "download ePub" option available.

Update - it's now been over 2 months and so far the books in question have not disappeared again. I don't know what the "specialist team" (see my post #14 upthread) did to the books but it appears they fixed the problem. I wanted to report back here so if anyone else has same the issue they will know it's worth asking Google for help.
