No, not white text on a black background – what I mean is whatever it is Barnes & Noble has done with the GlowLight 3 (orange-ish light for night reading). The reason I think Amazon will do it with the Kindle is because they have a history of "keeping up with the Nooks" whenever the Nook adds a new feature and the Paperwhite is about due for a new version (I think, or maybe "think" should be in quotes?).

Of course I could be totally wrong on this.

And Barnes & Noble kept them when they introduced the Nook Simple Touch (even though it had a touch screen). And now they've brought them back. Sony Readers also kept buttons after they added touch screens. If the device has buttons I'll almost always use them for page turning rather than touching the screen. Looking up a word, highlighting, etc., is what I use the touch screen for.

The previous Nook was waterproof and had a flush screen. Paperwhite still doesn't. If anything, Amazon has a history of keeping up with the Nooks, but charging an extra $100 ($120 if you don't want ads).

That's true. But I've got a feeling the Nook GlowLight 3's "night mode" feature is more popular than a reader being waterproof. (I didn't know the GlowLight Plus had (has) a flush screen.)
