Calibre Transfer

Hi

I'm still not sure what I'm doing wrong.
In the series field I added the order they should be in, then I downloaded them to the Kindle with the attached photo's showing the result.
Perhaps I should go back to the beginning and let you guide me then check the result after each step.
On my Kindle I have made folders for each author then I transfer the books into the folder. Is this compatible with what I'm trying to do.

Your plugboard isn't taking. I could not figure it out myself when I started using it. As workaround I enabled the plugboard for everything. Not just mobi->kindle2, but any->any.

I've tried everything I could find on the internet and still cannot get it to work. There must be another setting somewhere in Calibre that needs changing but I can't find a step by step set of instructions. I've altered the plugboard formulas but nothing seems to work.

Why are you putting your eBooks in directories? Kindles do not support directories. And once you eventually empty those directories, all you'll have left is empty directories. It's best to just put the eBooks in the root directory and forget putting them in other directories.

If you mean collections, then ignore what I wrote about directories.

Apologies if I have misunderstood the above but how are you actually transferring the books to the Kindle? It reads as if you may be manually copying your books onto your device using the file manager on your PC (or Mac).

For calibre metadata plugboards to have any effect you need to be using calibre to do the transfer. Attaching your device to Calibre via USB cable then using the calibre send-to-device option is the most common way of doing it. The metadata plugboard magic name-changing happens during the send-to-device process.

By default calibre adds books in directories when transfering books even though the Kindle does not utilize them. Books need to be in document folder, in root you won't see them, I think.

What is the custom metadata for?

If you made the directories yourself, then you did not use calibre to transfer the books. The books on your computer are not the ones you want to put on your Kindle directly.

Plugboards do not change the books on your computer, they make a copy of the book and change some information on it (namely the title in your case) and then push that fresh modified book on your Kindle, leaving the one on computer original.

You do that inside calibre by right clicking on a book and select "send to main memory". Do not use the file explorer to do so.

I am computer literate and what you said in your post , re transfer via calibre is what I've been doing since I bought the kindle from Amazon many years ago.
Having said all that I'm still no further forward with getting the transfer correct.

Ah...ok. Those are collections, not directories. I know it seems pedantic, but the words really do mean different things.

Ok...so when you transfer a book to your Kindle, you are selecting a book, and then clicking on "Send to device", right?

Okay, then I have only one more thing you can try. And that is to first delete all the Alex Grey books from your kindle (deleting them directly on the device) connect to computer and send to device again with calibre and a plugboard that looks exactly like the attached picture. If it works, then try and modify it to your liking - I know the format is not what yours is.

Really silly question.

Your books have DRM by any chance? If the books still have DRM, then the plugboards don't work.
