That's essentially what has to be done. You have to identify a sequence of waiting jobs of the form:

upload book
send metadata
upload book
send metadata
...

and delete all the send metadata jobs except the last. However, for technical reasons this is not trivial to do.

Thanks, Kovid. If you could add it to your "it would be nice to have" list, I'd be grateful.

In the mean time, I've added a saved search "Not in Kindle Format", which contains the search string:

not (format:=azw3 or format:=mobi or format:=prc)

and I'm using the results of this search to bulk convert books before sending them to the device.
