I'd love to watch this Star Trek series, but I'm not about to pay extra money to do so. So it'll go unwatched by me until such time that it airs on network TV or Prime Video.

And CBS All Access is an additional $9.99 per month ($5.99 with limited commercials) in the US. Too steep for one network's offerings, in my opinion. Commercial-free Hulu is $12.99 a month and it gets me a ton of shows from several networks the day after they air.

Disney is pulling all their stuff from Netflix and will launch their own competing service in 2019. CBS already has CBS All Access. Time will tell, I guess. |

Wow! You usually say no use thinking about it until it happens. Things look bleak for streaming almost everything from 1 paid service.

Again, in the episode last night, the book "The Adventures of Alice in Wonderland" appeared in the new Star Trek. I think a theme is developing.
Indeed, "my Dear Watson." Yes, indeed. |

They first referenced Alice in Wonderland back in the original series with the "shore leave" episode, and of course Sherlock Holmes was referenced several times on TNG by Data. I understand they might have had more such episodes save for some contract problems with the Doyle estates. And there were the Dixon Hill episodes which were a fictionalized version of hard boiled detective fiction (such as Phillip Marlowe and Sam Spade). Books have always featured (even if just indirectly) in the Star Trek franchise.
