The list of books on the device. The place you open a book from. What do you call it, if not the library page?

My guess is library = home view = cover view list of all books. Even Amazon named the menu option that leads to it as "My Library".

I seem to recall other reports of this same problem going back to change of the UI first introduced with firmware 5.7.x...

My vote is still on user error local to that specific device.

I mean what this thread is all about: the book does not appear in the list of my books (accessed by tapping on 'My library' in the upper left part of the home screen).

OK I think you're right that there is something wrong with the book.
I grabbed the original epub created by Calibre and checked if it validates using http://validator.idpf.org/. It throws several errors.

I spent some time trying to correct these errors but as I know _nothing_ about the epub format I ended up replacing my errors with other ones.

Then I tried to convert the .azw3 (which had been created by Calibre from the epub) to epub -> Calibre failed. So I still don't know exactly what's wrong with the book but I know that something is.

Now I have to figure out whether this is good or bad news.

@chrorine: You could maybe try converting that "problematic" epub using KindleGen instead of Calibre and test that .mobi file (Kindlegen produces so called "dual mobi"/"combo mobi" file = contains both "old mobi" and "KF8" formatting) by manually copying it via USB to Documents directory on you Kindle.

First delete that book from Kindle of course.

Also, you could maybe open the epub file via Calibre Editor, click on the red bug icon ["Check book" tooltip] (left from the "ABC" icon) to do the validation, expand that error list to show all errors at once, create a screenshot (or multiple screenshot if there are to many errors) and attach it here publicly for people to see and try to guide you through fixing them... or you can send me a PM to take a look.

Example screenshot:

Thanks for the tip and the kind offer, shamanNS.
I've decided I do not care enough about this particular book to try and fix the problem. This has however encouraged me in trying to convert some things to ebooks, so when I take the plunge I'll be sure to ask for help here.

No, don't ask here (as in the Kindle forum). Ask on the "Kindle Formats" forum.
