Nook ST. All the way. I just bought one (in the US) for $21 refurb including shipping. I had one once before. It runs ePub, feels good in your hand, has nice page turn buttons, the screen is clearer than most of the paper books I read and it has an SD card slot. I have read whole books on a kindle paperwhite, and as far as reading, the nook is nicer, or at least its equal. I would recommend it even if it cost $100. JSWolf is a nook hater. I and many others are not.

Yeah, the only problem there is the lack of a light. And the models with a light have become collectible/expensive or have damaged screens. At least the last time I checked a Nook ST with Glowlight cost more than the Aura on eBay.

I guess I should withdraw the $100 thing, as for $120 already you can get a light and a 300ppi screen, and I will say that from what I have seen those 300ppi's are gorgeous. |

When I upgraded from a tablet with an average resolution to a higher resolution one, the difference was noticeable. But I guess since an e-ink screen only displays static text, the screen isn't as big of a deal. Now a lighted screen, that's a whole different story. Do get one. The original 6" Aura is available on eBay for fifty bucks US (or forty pounds UK) and it is worth the upgrade from an unlighted reader. |

the nook STR is an odd shape with a rubbery feel. It's not nice. The font rendering is terrible. I also have a 650 and a T1 and both (with the same resolution Pearl screen) did a much better job rendering fonts. I've had the Readers in front of me to compare. so I know what I am talking about from experience. I bought the nook as a backup because it was so cheap. Sometimes cheap isn't a suitable option. To me, nook isn't an option.

Just got my $21 ST. Seller sent me a brand new Simple Touch Glowlight. The print is better than most books, and I guess the light is nice, too. Here is a pic of it on a book, with the font set as close as possible to the book's font so you can compare them.

So now what exactly are you wanting to compare? With a change in the lighting, both look readable. |

I have a ST Glowlight and I really don't care for a lighted reader. I'd read on my Nook HD instead given a choice if I needed a lighted ereader. I do like the ST when the Glowlight isn't on.

Completely different fonts. You cannot compare the two. Use the same font and then compare.

And honestly stating that you think it's a poor device is fine. To continually repost in the same thread (in repeated threads) telling the OP's repeatedly they are making a mistake if they even think about a Nook gets old fast. You hate them. Others like them. You've given YOUR opinion, now let the OP make up THEIR OWN mind.

Hey, very nice. Cheap Nook STs are easy to find. Ones with the light tend to either be expensive, or cheap but damaged.
