It is very likely that the Pro 9.7 will be discontinued, hence the lower price, so if you want it grab it now. It is lighter than the newer models and is the same size and thickness of the Air 2.

It's already been discontinued. Apple doesn't sell it new anymore in the store or their website. It's just left over stock at places like Best Buy and refurb units at this point. The 10.5" is the replacement.

The BT keyboard I'm currently using using (3-4 year old Logitech) will pair with 3 devices (any OS), selected via assigned keys. It's a little heavy but no doubt there are lighter ones with the same functionality (this one has a couple of AA batteries in it, which I've only had to replace once). I also have a much lighter Anker with rechargeable battery, and that goes for probably a year between charges, but pairs with only one device. I think it also goes to sleep sooner and so you have to get used to waking it up before typing.
I'm planning to get an iPad Pro, but don't see myself getting Apple's SmartConnector keyboard and throwing away the flexibility. There's talk of more 3rd party vendors using it (I think only Logitech does now) but its not clear to me there is demand. It's not really very onerous to charge a keyboard every year, and I don't find latency much of a problem. I wish more app developers would think to include keyboard use cases (hotkeys etc). Specifically reading apps should at least respond to arrows to turn pages, Enter or space bar to scroll, ,command+F to initiate search etc. Apple's apps do well with this for the most part. I have two different covers I use for my iPad Pro. One is a cover with keyboard, while the other is just a leather cover. I use the cover with keyboard at work, the the leather cover everywhere else. The cover with the keyboard stays in by backpack when I'm not using it.

I’ve had the first and second iPads but when I got to the 3rd version I was happy with it for several years. This year I purchased a year old iPad Pro 12/9 (the big one) and love it to death. I have a simple cover I purchased off Amazon for about $10 and even though it’s a bit heavier than my previous iPad I still take it everywhere.

In respect to the Ipad Pro 9.7 I like the size and the really nice screen. Its speed is very quick, at least for my uses. I don't play games but do listen to music and watch quite a bit of movies. And the 4 speakers really do deliver excellent sound . There are 2 covers that I like...the Logitech Create keyboard case and the MoKo smart cover that has the translucent back. Reading on the 9.7 is a joy!

But not sure about ebooks (reflowable text). Most reading apps (and in particular Kindle) don't really give enough control over layout for such a large screen. Then again, I mostly use more portable devices for that reading. What are some of the things you love about it? |

I do read a lot with mine. I play Monoply and Solitaire. I watch a lot of TV and movies in bed with it. I don’t even touch my iPad v3 anymore, it sits on dresser giving me the weather report. I also find the speakers great on the Pro.
I have a huge Amazon account and many magazines and comic books. The larger iPad Pro is great with them all. If you look at a lot of pictures it’s priceless. Last edited by pagansoul; 09-01-2017 at 07:32 PM. |
