I really can't say I've noticed any significant difference in the UI. What is it that you dislike so much about it?

- the difference between books and collections in the list view is less pronounced,
- more taps needed to change page orientation, which I do quite frequently, an additional tap to change the margins - the names "All" and "Downloaded" are less intuitive than "Cloud" and "On device", - the list view seems more cluttered, and the are huge "ok" signs marking downloaded books, progress shown in dots is harder to read (probably because they forced the user to see the percentages ;P), - I liked the old icons better (having two icons smaller and captioned is against basic rules of well-balanced design. A search field in which works like a big button, and not an actual field where you input text, drives me crazy ![]() - plus little things, like the location/size of various buttons, which partly is an improvement, and partly is less convenient. Yeah, I know, those are little things, in many cases matters of personal taste or habit, or just not all that relevant, but I hate being forced to those changes, and not being able to have a say about what the interface of my device looks like. I hate Amazon's policy on this. |

Fair enough. These might perhaps induce a feeling of mild dislike in me, but hatred is a terribly strong emotion to result from a user interface

Amazon behaves as if they still own the behavior of the devices they have sold outright. Most of the members (and users) of the Developer's sub-forum here take the opposite view. With the outright sale of the device, the device's behavior was included. I.E: The device owner owns the device behavior (or at least the chance to choose or determine it). = = = = = Have you (anyone reading this) ever wondered why the Kindle interface does almost all it can to get you to "complete registration"? Hint: Buried in the 'legal' statements available on the Kindle is the fact that your registration of the device is also your agreement to their EULA. (The Amazon version of a "Click Wrap") Have you (anyone reading this) wonder what happened to those CDs that used to come with personal computers that had Windows pre-installed? Hint: Plastic CDs where not discontinued as a cost saving matter. What is now history (2001): http://www.linuxjournal.com/article/5628 = = = = = Of course, there is not (currently) an alternative to running the Kindle with the Amazon/Lab126 provided firmware. Not like the case of the personal computer, where the owner does currently have alternatives to the pre-installed operating system. |

If you have not let the new one update yet, you will be able to jailbreak that one. We have found that the jailbreak protection ( for now ) is not applied in the factory, but applied when it gets it's first update over wifi or USB. So if you get that new kindle, and do not hook it up to wifi ( press yes to wifi, but instead of choosing the name, hit cancel ). You should be able to do all of the jailbreaking steps on it. |

@knc1: Great point about the ownership of the device's behavior!
@coplate: It got an update over night, unfortunately. Yeah, lucky me, I know. But that's definitely interesting, I will remember that when I get yet another Kindle one day. |

It may be time for them to release a replacement for its position in the product line-up. But they need to be careful when (if) they do that - Even Amazon claims the PW3 is the most popular model Kindle they ever made. (But corporations have been known to do dumb things like stop producing their best selling product. Usually just before the share holders change management.) |
