Sony driver files are always available in \Program Files\Sony\Reader\Data\drivers.

I like the user interface better than Sony's and I like the conversion utilities but I don't want to lose access to the reader if something goes wrong. (Calibre is still a beta, right? We're on version 4.83 beta, correct? Or did I misinterpret?).

In any case, thanks for your help.

Arden

PS You might want to get rid of the old FAQ. It comes up first for a google search on "Calibre FAQ."
If you have a 505 it is trivial, otherwise you may have to uninstall a USB driver manually.

So does that mean that...

So does that mean that I don't have to install any additional drivers to make Calibre work with the 505? Again, it asked me if I wanted to install the drivers for the Sony PRS500 and I said "no." Are we done if I'm using a 505 then?

Thanks

the 505 doesn't need drivers.

Thanks

Thanks. That's great.

Just another suggestion... You might mention that in the pop-up box that asks you if you want to add the PRS500 drivers. It was only later that I realized that there was a difference... i.e. that I have a 505 not a 500. This probably obvious to someone who works closely with this software but for the average user who just buys a "new cool Sony reader" it's like "what do I have? Does that mean the 500 series? Do you need the 500 drivers for a 505?" etc. Just stating parenthetically that no drivers are necessary for the 505 would be a help.

Thanks again,

Arden

In the next release, the whole driver installation is going to be removed. PRS500 users will have to do a manual driver install step.

Are there any .manifest files in the C:\Program Files\calibre\plugins folder? In particular

winutil.pyd.manifest

No, there is no existing version of calibre on this machine prior to installing 6.12.

I also made sure that there is no calibre directory in program files...

I searched my machine for "winutil.pyd.manifest" -- it is not there
