If you use the My Books filters, you could always tap on Reading under the filters menu to filter books that are in progress for those who have multiple books being read at one time. This will not show your newly added books until you open them from another view or search. Tapping twice to change the view can be a bit tedious.

For my personal needs, the search function works fine. I especially love the saved searches when I am reading a series or binge reading a single author.

I will admit to being an outlier in that my current reading stats show 287 books read in 666 hours since my last factory reset.
