I have the latest Windows 10 on my Surface Pro 2 and I have no issues at all with my H2O. So I don't see how Windows 10 is broken when it works.

Also, the only USB port on the Surface Pro 2 is a USB 3 port so I know it's not an issue of the USB port type.

Thanks for the help, but it didn't work. When I try to access my local Kobo storage, I get the following error:

Is there any hope left, guys?

Same topic (microSD slot), different problem - apologies if a separate thread were preferable.

I recently tried to use a microSD card in my Kobo reader (Aura H20, 1st version). I searched the manual for instructions, and found none. When the ereader is just on, the files on the SD card don't seem to be visible; when connected to my PC (Windows 7), I can copy files to the SD card, but then this doesn't seem to reflect on the ereader. Calibre also doesn't seem to "see" the SD card or the files on it.

Most likely, I'm doing something wrong, and I'll feel stupid when it's pointed out to me. But what?

@PhilippeD. are you using FAT32 filesystem? Your computer would see NTFS, exfat on the Kobo fine and able to copy files to, but the Kobo itself would not be able to access those files because it doesn't know the filesystem. It needs a single partition, with oldschool FAT filesystem on it.

I think I've read something about a bug with microsd handling recently... which firmware version are you using exactly?

@Luffy: Does it work on any other PCs? Anything with Windows 7, Linux, ...? The Kobo itself does show it's connected to PC? Do you have antivirus, such things sometimes interfere too, temporarily disabling might be worth a try. You could also try simply formatting it but that would lose you all your data. :-/

Is your Windows updated? I thought the detection bugs we had a year or so ago were fixed

I only have this laptop that's relatively not old and I like using Windows 10. The F drive is visible but inaccessible (I get that error message I mentioned when I try to access it). The microSD card shows up all the time. My Windows is up to date. I tried to disable my antivirus software but that too did not work. Also I never take my Kobo outside of my home as a safety precaution.

I didn't format the card myself, so I used the filesystem it came with. Actually, I'm not sure how to reformat a card to a given filesystem on Windows

What is the "normal" behavior when the Kobo recognizes the filesystem? Should any books on the SD card appear in the "normal" library, or perhaps as their own shelf?

There were problems with version 4.4.9298 firmware seeing the SD card if it didn't have a label. This has been fixed with 4.4.9344 and 4.4.9349. Check the version in the settings to see which it is. Or you can add a label to the card using the PC.

When the device sees the card, it flashes the screen. If there are books on it that the device hasn't seen before, the black processing screen will be displayed as it add the books to the library. If it can't process the card for some reason, it should display an error message.

Also, to answer a comment in your first post, yes this should be in a separate thread. Keeping threads to a single problem keeps the thread focussed and easier to see what has been suggested and tried.

Thanks for your help, guys, but even updating to the latest build didn't work for me. However, you were right to suggest that I try my Kobo out on another device. And I did the next best thing. The friend I mentioned earlier installed Virtual Box on my laptop and set up Ubuntu on it. I was then finally able to access my Kobo's internal memory through that system without any hitch. Thank you for your patience, and all your valuable advice which lead to this solution.

I have to disagree with you. I use 3 different flavours of Windows 10 x64 -- Windows 10 Pro, Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB and the latest Insider Preview version released to the fast ring. I connect multiple Kobo ereaders and have only seen two ongoing issues. The first where my Kobo ereaders were not seen persisted through multiple Insider Preview releases into the Anniversary Update. That issue was fixed shortly after the AU was released. The second issue has to do with the USB 3 ports on my laptop where either using a USB 2 port or plugging a USB 2 hub into a USB 3 port fixes the problem. That one I suspect will never be fixed since Intel is no longer actively releasing updates for laptop's chipset.

I've also had issues with various releases of Mac OSX not seeing my Kobo's storage correctly including one occasion where the antivirus on the Mac insisted on scanning the entire 32GB external card which delayed the mount so long that Calibre and the Kobo desktop had issues unless I waited the 8-10 minutes so both volumes mounted on the desktop before starting the application.

For those who love Windows version info:

Windows 10 Professional: 15063.413
Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB: 10240.17443
Windows 10 Insider Preview: 16215.1000

I'd recommend using the SDCard Association formatter SD Card Formatter 4.0 to format your card, preferably outside your Kobo using a SDCard slot or adapter to connect it to your computer. During the format, give the card a useful name since some version of the Kobo firmware had issues with nameless uSD cards. I would also recommend creating a directory on the card and building your library inside it to halp separate your files from other files/directories that may be created on the card.

Normal behaviour would be to scan the card for any new content after disconnecting from your computer and, if new content is found, import the content into your library. You can also check in the Settings/Device Information page where you should see both the internal and external storage listed.

I'd have to disagree with your quoting a single version number. My work laptop fully updated reports it's version as 10240.17443. Current build for a specific branch might be closer to what you wanted.
