I'm pretty sure that's for returning an item just because you changed your mind. If the reader is defective, I'm sure Chapters will do a return. If you have any doubt, give them a call and ask.

Maybe I should.

Am I right to guess that if anything goes wrong after the 14 days, I have to deal with kobo directly?

My kobo vox didn't act up until a month after I had it for.

Here in the US I believe Best Buy's return period is now 14 days, likely the same in Canada. Here is Chapters' return policy, which says 30 days for "most items". Again, I'd give them a call and ask if ereaders are an exception to that 30 days so you know what to expect.

Although I'll add that it's normal for all stores to no longer give refunds even for defective items after the store's return time period. At that point you always need to deal with the manufacturer.

In the US, some items cannot be returned without a 15% restocking fee. TVs are one of those items. People would buy a TV, use it to watch say the Superbowl and then return the TV. You can return if the item is defective or exchange if defective without any fee. But just to return, some items will be have a fee. Unless of course, the item is unopened.

Yes, unfortunately Best buy in Canada is also 14 days only for eReaders, but at least you can returned it in opened condition. I've dealt with Kobo in the past (for account issues), and they were pretty quick in helping me resolve it.

I'm sure that depends entirely on the particular store's policy. I've returned TVs without any problems at all, simply because I didn't like the picture, or it was lacking a feature I really needed to hook up all my various DVD players/recorders/computers to.

But those policies are usually well documented and posted at the B&M stores and should be readily noticeable on their websites as well.

Again, calling and asking is your safest bet if you have any doubts.

I'm wondering if you bought a TV and it turned out not to be suitable and you returned it for an exchange for a different TV, would you still have to pay the 15% restocking fee (if the store has such)?

Probably depends on the store manager.

It wouldn't surprise me if the store was more forgiving in the event of an exchange, especially if the exchange is also an upgrade.

That's good to know. H2O 2 doesn't seem to have any issues that I've heard of but then not many around here seem to have taken the plunge just yet....

That's my thought too. Personally, I'd never buy from any store that has a 15% restocking policy (or any restocking fee at all, no matter how low). The only exception I've ever made to that is NewEgg because their prices were generally that much better. But those purchases were electronic computer parts that I researched well before buying and knew there wouldn't be any chance of returning them unless I happened to get a defective unit. And then of course the 15% restocking fee doesn't apply.

What do you mean by upgrade?

Because it would be great if a retailed would just exchange if I were to have any problems.

Exchange the one TV for a higher-priced TV model, ie upgrade. But that still has to be within the store's return time allowed.

Every reputable store will offer you an exchange for a defective item. No restocking fees, no hassles, should be no problems at all. But again, that has to be within the store's time frame for returns. Once past that time, you have to deal with the manufacturer under their warranty coverage if the unit should suddenly show defects after that point.
