If you still have your current device I think you should give it a go. You've nothing to lose. It would prove if it is the firmware or the hardware.

Battery discharged overnight

I have also experienced the sudden battery drain on my KA1 after installing 4.4.9349. It's completely dead overnight. I noticed that the light wouldn't shut off in sleep mode, so I manually reduced it to 0%. When I picked it up in the morning the battery was dead, so I plugged it in, and then it showed the light was back to 5%, not 0%. Conclusion: another buggy update that will resolve itself with the next update. More at this thread:

I'll put my 2 cents in that .9348 solved all my battery problems.

I can now happily use my sleep cover, I've turn off all the power-saving settings, the screen brightness seems to work perfectly, and I barely drop a single percentage point overnight.

I am a very happy camper with .9349

If you sync, you'll get the newer firmware. You'll either need to not sync or use the patch to not get the new firmware via sync.
