It's not a hardware fail. I have the same bug on my H2O. I didn't have it before 4.4.9344. What I do is use the light slider at the top of the screen to turn off the light. That works.

I frequently sync pocket -- turn on wifi, go to pocket; it usually automatically syncs, but you can also select refresh on the menu there. I don't have the patch that prevents firmware upgrade. I just turned off automatic sync, I never sync to the kobo store or allow my kobo to do a full sync. |

I have bug #2 in my H20 v1 - closing the sleep cover with the light on and the light remaining on. I know that it does go to sleep since if I open it rapidly I see the sleeping screen briefly. I also occasionally (but not always) have the bug deviantintegral mentioned:

Hi all,
I seem to be having all these issues since I updated to 4.4.9344 ![]() Additionally, I also have the problem that in the home screen and every time I send the device to sleep or power off, the percentage of the book I have read is stuck at 65% and won't change, and when I open the book it sends me to the chapter that is at the 65% of the book and I have to manually go to annotations to go back to the chapter I was actually at. This is so annoying! I had several books started and it's happening with all of them (but with different progress percentages). Regarding the other problems... I am manually turning the device off every time I finish reading to keep the battery from draining, since even if I set the light to 0% it seems to go back to 1% on its own, and to set the light to 0% I use the menu at the top of the screen. The issue about the touch not responding only happened to me once, and after rebooting it seemed to be OK. I really hope Kobo launches a firmware upgrade that fixes these issues, because apart from them I love my e-reader. |

Unless you have a backup of the database, the only real fix is to sign out of the Kobo account and back in. This will create an empty database and then reprocess your books. Unfortunately, this will mean you lose the book status and collections for all the sideloaded books. If you are a calibre user, you can store the reading status using my Kobo Utilities plugin, but it is probably to late to do that. And I assume you are not a calibre user as you almost definitely would have seen a database error when connecting by now. Quote:

It seems to be connected to using the Comfort Light. I tried a couple of things: signing out of my kobo account and signing back in again did not work. After that I powered off the device a couple of times with the both the light levels set at zero. Now it works oke again, in the sense that once the normal (blue) light is turned on, it turns off when the device goes to sleep. And it also powers off automatically after 60 minutes. I just cannot use the comfort light, because it will stay on when the device goes to sleep and it will drain the battery. Seriously: one of the main features of the new Kobo H2O is its Comfort Light. And it is broken. ![]() Here is a picture of my kobo h2O second edition sleeping and draining the battery with its Comfort light still on. ![]() |

What I do with my H2O that works is when I am done reading, I turn off the light with the light icon at the top of the screen. I do this in a book that's open so if I want to read again in the dark, I can swipe the left side to turn on the light. But turning off the light, I don't get the light staying on or the light turning on when waking from sleep.

I'm not just having the light bug, I'm also having the sleep and touch issues. And I just received this Kobo Aura HD TODAY. smh
It forcibly updated because for some moronic reason you have to connect it to WiFi and sign in before being able to use it. After I updated it and added some books, I turned it off. Then I read some threads about the newest update and all the issues it brings, and wouldn't you know it... the issues manifested themselves within an hour of updating!! ![]() Can't go to 0% (stuck on 1% brightness), touch stops working when you wake the Kobo up... this is a nightmare. So glad I turned WiFi off on my H2O a looong time ago. Is there any way to downgrade? Please tell me there is. I have no need for the store or additional features. All I want to do is read my ePubs. |

Well, yesterday I thought the light bug problem was somehow connected to using the Comfort Light. Yesterday evening proved me wrong.
![]() ![]() Then I was busy with it for an hour or so, trying to see if it would resolve itself once I had powered off a couple of times, but the bug continued. Now I do not only have the second bug, but the first one @JSWolf mentions also. When I put the device to sleep with the light put down to level zero, it will light up once the reader is awakend. Not even at 1% level, but whatever it seems to have remembered, 37% or 14% or whatever. ![]() I am extremely annoyed. I am really thinking of sending the H2O 2nd edition back to the store. ![]() Questions: 1) Is this really a firmware bug and not faulty hardware? 2) Is there any firmware I can manually downgrade the H2O 2nd ed. to? Firmware that does not have either bug? Can I use all Mark 6 firmware versions? 3) Should I return the device or not? |

Before putting the H2O to sleep, turn off the light.

I have experienced the described bug on my H2O (version 1), but with an older firmware (4.3.8945).
I would turn off the light, and then, when I opened the ereader (by opening my cover) sometime later, the light would be turned on again. This does not happen all the time; recently I haven't experienced it (but I only notice the problem after the last time the ereader upgraded its firmware - and this is the version currently on my ereader). |

My wife's Aura HD has the same bug with the light not turning off in sleep mode with 4.4.9344 - it was fine with 4.3.9084 that it was previously running. I put 4.4.9344 on my Aura HD about a week ago, and didn't see any problems, so yesterday I put it on her reader, which promptly started displaying the bug. Regardless of whether the device is put into sleep mode by using the sleep cover or by flipping the power switch, the screen light does not go off. My Aura HD doesn't have the problem with the same F/W version

Just connected my H2O with the WLAN again and got that (now not so new anymore) update.
First I noticed swiping the left side up and down doesn't turn the light off anymore. Lowest setting is 1%, but lowest setting should be off. Well I selected 0% in the menu then but in the evening I notice a strange glow of my device, checked it, light was back on while the device was in Standby. Also after waking the device it sets the light from 0% to 30% WTF? Why isn't that fixed by now? |
