No unusual battery drain on my Glo HD (4.4.9344) however I don't have a PIN set.

I'm experiencing battery draining issue. The device also wouldn't auto-power off despite set to do so after 60 minutes. I've tried powering off and on myself (because it wouldn't do it automatically...) but the issue persists. Anyone else?

Yes, it's been discussed in a few threads here. It isn't affecting any of my devices, so it isn't affecting everyone. And I haven't seen a pattern to explain when it is happening.

the pattern i see is that it only happens if i was using the comfortLight and put my reader in sleep mode. it never powers off afterwards. If i wasn't using the light, it will eventually powers off and no battery drain.

But for me, the light is always on for all my devices. If they sleep via cover, button or time-out, the light goes off after a second or two. I don't usually use the auto-power off. When I tried, the light went off and the power off happened as well.

The issue first popped up for me following these steps:
1. I turned on the light to read.
2. I didn't turn off the light when I put the device to sleep. The device light stayed on.
3. I noticed this straight away, woke the device and turned brightness to 0 before putting it to sleep again.
4. Device wouldn't auto-power off after that despite set to do so after 60 minutes. Battery is drained.

Software version: 4.4.9349 (6f700792a0, 5/17/17)

I've manually powered off and back a couple of times after that but the not-auto-powering off issue persisted... until today. There haven't been any new firmware updates, but now it would power itself off and doesn't seem to be using any more battery than normal.

I'd never set it to auto-power off previously, but I think I'll keep that just in case there are any more firmware updates and the battery issues happen again.

Your description is exactly matching the behavior of my Kobo Glo (I also stated that already inside the "Kobo bug thread").

So far I always had been pleased with my reader, but this is really not a good job by Kobo
The solution for me was (and is) Firmware 4.3.9084, that was the last one without these issues. Sleep Mode/Light off, Auto Power Off, Battery Life - everything ok again. By the way, of course it brought back the old homescreen...
Fortunately I don't sync the device with Kobo - that would immediately bring the newer firmware again .

I'm using this very same solution as erlendur too. You can actually sync normally without fear of being automatically updated if you apply the appropriate patch.

Though I previously said there was no unusual drain on my Glo HD I have since noticed this problem on my Glo (4.4.9344) . In my case I rarely use the light.

I did switch it on (minimum level) and then noticed it didn't go off when sleeping (either when I closed the sleep cover or when I used the power button to sleep it manually).

Then after I had turned off the light I realised that the battery was being drained more than I would have expected in a reading session (say 90 minutes).

The problem seems to occur if the light is turned on and then off. In addition the light is not being turned off when in sleep mode.

I haven't checked this out on my Glo HD yet.

On my Glo HD, since installing (4.4.9344) my reading light does not go off in sleep mode and chews through the battery.
Also, if I set the reading light to 0% using the slider and set the Glo to sleep, when I turn it back on the light comes on at 100%.
If I set the light to 0% using the left swipe, the brightness only goes to 1%, I am not sure if this is a feature or a bug.
I have now set it to turn off after 15 min, never had to do that before

I have also been experiencing all of the same problems with my Glo hd. Doing a factory reset didn't work so I'd like to roll it back to an older firmware. The rapid battery drain just isn't something I can look past. It will be at 99% when I am done reading, and be at 5% the next day! I've already tried to roll it back, but it didn't work. Would anyone be willing to give me very specific directions on how to do this, or direct me to some? I've never done anything like this before. Also, can anyone suggest a firmware that would be best? Preferably one that didn't have problems with the reading stats.

I just spoke with customer service and they ackowledged the issue (battery drain after updating to 4.4.9344 for Kobo Glo HD).

I know it is not affecting everybody - my wife has the exact same model as mine with the same version of the software and her device does not suffer this issue.

Which translates to: you contacted us because after the update, the backlight does not turn off during sleep and the battery life is reduced; as discussed on the phone, this is a known issue from kobo and an update will address this issue. The update is scheduled for July.

*** EDIT

Update on this, downgrading, performing a full factory reset and upgrading again fixed this issue for me - the screen now correctly dims when the device goes to sleep.

I tried that, downgrade, full reset and upgrade. No change, I still have the issue so reverting to the previous version again and will wait for the next version to hopefully fix this.

I did have an issue in some previous firmware where the light would turn on from waking up. But that didn't last long as that version firmware wasn't long for this world before a fixed version came out.
