Again, all updates come from the kobo servers they are not hosted or sent by any of the affiliates so there was nothing for any affiliates to remove.

Okay, then there should not be any sources of the bad update lingering around for unsuspecting updaters!?!

When I look at my firmware downloads, the file is served by an Akamai edge server. This reduces the load on Kobo's servers and you get the data from a source that is geographically closer to you. The problem is that like any caching proxy, it is possible for the data served by Akamai to be out of date. I suspect that Kobo would have sent Akamai a purge request for the bad firmware update file as soon as they knew about the problem but that would still take some time to be processed.

Well the left one is exactly the same as the one on the previous home screen. And the right one changes and shows different things as you use the device.

Does this firmware also work on the other Mark 6 devices?

Is anyone else having difficulty with the frontlight in this firmware? On my Kobo Aura One, the frontlight no longer turns itself off when I put the reader into sleep mode by pressing the power button on the back. I have to turn the frontlight off manually before I press the power button, otherwise the frontlight stays on.

I'm not sure if it's relevant, but I control the frontlight manually rather than relying on Kobo's automatic adjustments, because I find the automatic level eye-searingly bright.

H2O, the left side slider only drops the light to 1%. I have to use the slider to go to 0. This is with 4.4.9344 which is the same except for the black on black fix for Mark 6 devices.

I've updated my H20 yesterday to 4.4.9344. My wife is using this reader, she told me this morning that the battery was fully drained. The evenening before (right before updating) it was 36%, after update it was around 33%. Normally she does weeks with one battery load so I didn't expect the full battery drain. Maybe the frontlight was on all night, but I don't know for sure.
If I close the front cover I can see the light being turned off after a couple of seconds.

I have the same issue, can't get below 1% with left slider. (Using same firmware). The slider in the menu does go to 0%
