But, what would Amazon do with a dual core because the rest of the hardware is not needing such.

I really don't see anything that Amazon could add that would make me say wow. Same goes for Kobo. Perhaps if Amazon went to a larger eInk screen, but they don't seem interested in that. The eInk readers have long since peaked. You can put more lipstick on a pig, but it is still a pig. In Amazon's case, they could make huge improvement through FW, but they are not interested in that either. Let's face it, most new FW features are designed to sell us more stuff. I never use much other than the dictionary feature, highlighting, and occasionally making a note, and note taking on a Kindle eInk is too slow and cumbersome to be of much use. All these folks crying for faster processors need to realize that adding same means adding faster battery drain and won't really speed up those slow eInk screens. Others are crying for water proofing. I've never needed that either. Until they come up with a better screen than eInk, I'm not going to get excited about purpose built eReader devices any more. Meh. Tablets are so much better....
ETA: Actually one thing might get my attention. If Amazon built a Voyage or Oasis without that damn crappy light layer, and priced it reasonably, then I might buy that. But no more light layers. They suck; always have, always will. Last edited by jswinden; 04-21-2017 at 01:00 PM. |

The light layer isn't the problem. The problem is the capacitive touch layer. My H2O is using IR touch and the light layer is very good. The capacitive layer is where you get the color blotches and other oddities when the light is on. If Amazon went back to IR, there would be no problem with the light.

I've thought about getting the Aura ONE, and I may, if Kobo fixes the other thing that I don't like...having to connect my Kobo to my computer in order to load books that don't come from Kobo. If they were to offer a way to store my side-loaded books on Kobo's servers (or even a way to easily access my books from somewhere else) then I probably will pull the trigger. Shari |

All of the "Kindle Basic" (KT, KT2, KT3) are IR touchscreens.
That pair of posts reads as if someone hasn't tried the FONT_RAMP feature of the Kindles. It is an included feature that does not require a jail break. |

Of course, with my Kobo, I have the other issues that I posted about in my other post. There is no perfect reader. Shari |

I read a lot of posts and I do manage to keep a lot of the information in mind, but I also make mistakes.
I even sometimes forget the degree of involvement of the person I respond to. Sorry about that. Finding the perfect e-reader? For myself, I still prefer the printed-on-paper word. |
