There will be a cover image generated by the device. And calibre might add a cover image when updating the metadata during the send. This is to solve a problem with some ereaders/apps that cannot handle there being no cover image in an epub. You can disable this in the options of the builton Epub Metadata Writer plugin.

The covers will be autogenerated for the library view, sleep screen, etc.

That's my way of working too.

At the moment I think I have less than 10 on my reader and it was the same with my old Sony 650.
