Next month there will be a small 5.8.8.1 update and every two months there is a bigger one (e.g. 5.8.9 in May, probably the last update for PW2, followed in June or July by PW4 announcement). This has been their schedule lately.

I need help. I just updated my Paperwhite 3rd gen from 5.8.7 and after the update completed it got stuck on the Kindle start image (the kid reading under the tree). I tried to reset it but it keeps getting stuck there, any help? Thanks.

Edit: Tried the amazon support and they just offered me a 15 usd discount in a new one. I bought it 14 months ago and now I'll have to buy and new one just for updating the firmware. It's really sad.

You could try the following method, which works for some Kindles and some problems:

Connect the Kindle Paperwhite to the PC via USB.
Create an empty DO_FACTORY_RESTORE file in the root directory.
Safely disconnect the reader from your computer.
Reboot your Kindle by holding the power button.

Thanks, tried that but I couldn't get to see the kindle on the PC. Even as I reseted it never appeared on the devices screen, maybe because i used a Passcode (It always asked for the pass when I connected to the PC).

For now, I connected to the Power and will let it there charging overnight (it's 4:21 AM here) hoping that it will fix itself as others users reported on the forum.

Call Kindle support rather than Amazon support.

I don't know the difference, I chatted with the assistant from their website, she derived me to a Kindle support chat and there was where she offered me that discount after make me try some steps that wasn't even for my device (press power + volume up, in a PW3 that doesn't have a volume key).

I live in Argentina so I don't think I could call to the support phone, I'll keep trying to fix it.

I don't know what went wrong, I updated to every firmware since I got it without issues and never tried to jailbreak it.

I'm in the USA (and not having any problems) but I didn't know there was a difference either, between Amazon support and Kindle support. How does one find Kindle support?

I have had my Voyage for over a month. It is connected to wifi. I am getting all my new books. However the firmware is 5.8.7.0.1 and "Update Your Kindle" is grayed out.

Suggestions?

Download the update manually

Then click and drag the downloaded file to your kindle via usb

If you want to manually update to firmware version 5.8.8 you can download it from this page and copy it to your Voyage via USB. That will enable the "Update" menu choice.

(If want to jailbreak your Voyage and haven't done it already, you need to do that before updating the firmware.)

Or just wait until Amazon gets around to "pushing" it to your kindle. They stagger the pushes, to avoid load on their servers. I'm never in a hurry for the next version. However, if you are in a hurry, then by all means, try the previous suggestion!

Hi there, I am having a problem with this firmware. When I look up for a word, it normally undid highlighted area with touching somewhere else on the screen but with 5.8.8, it keeps the word highlighted and I need to touch twice to turn the page. Anyone having similar problem?
