My experience in going from K4 to a new Kindle: I had a Kindle 4 (the black model) and it fell down so that it had a small dark spot on the screen. It could easily be read but I found it a bit distracting, so I decided to buy a new Kindle.
Since I have no use for built-in light, I bought the basic Kindle Touch (the current one, 8th generation). I had expected a reading experience similar to my K4 or even better, considering that it's a new model. To my surprise, I saw that the readability was worse for me than the K4, because the letters looked flimsier and less dark. I later found out it has to do with the "weight" of the font. The weight is the thickness. A bold version of a font is a version with more weight. For some reason, the fonts in the modern Kindles (all of them, no matter the model) have less weight than the equivalent fonts in K4, and there's no way to adjust it. I ended up coming back to the K4 because I preferred it even with the dark spot. Finally, I decided to return the new Kindle to Amazon and buy instead a second hand K4. I bought one like mine but with no flaws on the screen for 40 EUR and I'm very happy with it. |
