Thanks, looking forward to it. Always interested in getting real-life examples of these rarely discussed edge cases. I always forget about Dictionaries (since I rarely ever use them when reading ebooks).

It is also perfectly valid HTML/XHTML.

A lot of code like this is laying groundwork for future tools/readers and definitely doesn't hurt to include.

But there are current tools that can take advantage of properly marked lang... like Calibre's Multi-Language Spellchecking (and hopefully Sigil too when that finally gets implemented).

Hmmm... speaking of Spellcheckers, are there any Grammar Checkers that take into account lang as well? Or do they typically only work on a global scale? (Check entire document as English, then check entire document as Spanish.)

The Flightcrew plugin has been and will continue to be updated. It is not a bug in FlightCrew itself as the xhtml/html/html5 spec has and will continue to change over time. I will try and modify the unknown lang= attribute to just a warning when I get some free time. Flightcrew's real value is in providing an alternative set of error checking and messages that can be useful for validation. It will typically not have the same bugs as epubcheck (and even the latest epubcheck has svg related bugs - see my bug post for a clear example in their Issues database).
