Just to update this thread: the `Brightness fine control` patch that went missing in firmware version 4.0 has been found again.

Do you mean the patch files have been found and re-included, or it became possible to rewrite the patch for 4.2.8432?
If it works, that would be great ![]() In the end, this seems to be the only patch I really want to have installed, because using the slider to set a specific percentage is almost impossible, and having 1-5, 10 and 15 as brightness steps is not good enough. Cool
![]() (In comparison, the Kindle has 24 usable light levels, as I consider everything higher than 15% unnecessary on the KA1. It's too bright for any situation I've been in.) |

It works. I don't like to change too much in the original firmware, so I removed all the patches except this one. Now I can set the slider roughly to where I want it, and then fine tune the setting. (Normally I'm between 10-15%, but on a bright, but overcast day, I might sometimes go up to 25-ish, I've noticed.)
Now I can set the KA1 front-light to blend with the ambient light, just as I did with the KPW1. Thanks ![]() I'll be saving 8432 and this patch, so I can return to this firmware if I don't like a future one for some reason. |
