2T is over double that price for some odd reason

Try Amazon...$80 for the 2TB. There is even a 4TB model for less than $130.

Also, WD has the "Elements" and "My Passport" line that seem to be identical as far as real-world use (same form factor, USB 3.0, same sizes), but the prices vary a lot.

In this particular case it was. I wanted something I could stick in an envelope and have a friend hold for me.

As a followup on my bad purchase, after posting details of the problem with both screenshots and a pic of the item and packaging, I received a refund via paypal (the same way I paid for the item).

So I guess all I lost was the time I spent attempting to make the thumb drive work. All in all it could have been a worse outcome!

I'm thinking I may retire my 2tb seagate usb drive from "daily" use and use it as backup only.
