I think you made the better choice too. I went to try out the new Tolino Vision 4HD, as it was heaviliy discounted this BF. In the end I decided to hold (very) tight on my Kobo Glo (non HD version): the TypeGenius feature alone is worth its weight in gold and my 3 years old Kobo is still more responsive compared to the Tolino. Plus it works seamlessy with Calibre.
If they keep up on this path (and nothing really better comes out), they'll keep me a loooong time. Especially if they make a 6,8" model with the Comfort light system. The Aura One is splendid but too big for me to take around and too expensive to keep just as an 'home reader only'. Last edited by Geenween; 12-01-2016 at 04:39 PM. |

@JSWolf: The dictionary option is a welcome bonus!
@Geenween: Thanks for the feedback! Could you explain this TypeGenius feature? I had not had the opportunity to test the Tolino 4HD, but I was able to get a thorough look at the 2HD of a friend. I was a bit disappointed by its sluggish reactions but thought that this was due to the older hardware. I am quite fond of the dictionary on the T1 and the Tolino's was really a bit bland (disorganized? at least it didn't feel like a dictionary) and something that would have taken getting used to... The above mentioned possibility to even add new dictionaries is so nice ![]() |

The hyphen dictionary JSWolf refers to is not a word dictionary, it is basically a file which tells the Kobo when to hyphenate words - and it is an improvement on the standard logic. In fact, I use it on my Tolino, which has horrible default hyphenation settings.
As far as I am aware, there are no alternative word dictionaries for the Kobo. The TypeGenius feature referred to by Geenween, is Kobo's advanced features for fine tuning font display. By default, it does not work on side-loaded fonts, but that can be changed if you make some alterations to the firmware (instructions can be found on this site). I am surprised at the comments that the Tolino seems sluggish - certainly in navigation, changing page settings and in reading epubs my Vision 3 HD is quicker than both my Glo and H20. I accept the Kobos work quicker on Kepubs. |

TypeGenius allows you to adjust the weight of the fonts so you can increase or decrease the font weight. This means you can set the fonts so they are not too light on screen. Fonts for eInk tend to need more weight than for LCD.

Thank you for clarifying that church mouse and JSWolf. I never paid attention to hyphenation on my Sony, but if there is an option for improvement, I'll gladly take it. I do hope that the supplied dictionaries will be comfortable to use - but on the other hand, I had been about to come to terms with Tolino's not so nice dictionary, so...
Okay, I'm not sure if I'll use TypeGenius much, but as I don't know this feature, I can't really tell. I'll be sure to look into the appropriate threads to find the instructions. ^^ What I meant with saying that Tolino was sluggish is that it didn't always react to the tap for turning a page. The tap-2-flip on the back of the Tolino didn't work half of the time, too. But as I said, the one I used was a Tolino Vision 2(!) HD which might be reacting differently than the newer versions. The rest worked smoothly and quickly. |
