The Kindle PowerFast charger is a waste of money. It's only 1.8A and has only one USB port. You can get better for the same money for less money. The Ikea charger I linked charges at 2.1A or 2.4A (not sure which but I am sure it's at least 2.1A). Plus it costs less and has 3 USB ports. The Powerfast is only 1.8A and one USB port and is expensive (for what it is).

Put a piece of electrical tape over the light and you'll be able to use it wherever you want.

The power charger charges a Kindle Fire in a short time (I just know mine is charged in a couple of hours). The standard one takes much longer (I use that when charging overnight). I don't use the power charger on my ereaders, just my Fires. In the past, using a charger rated higher than the standard for the ereader caused the battery to get warm. Not knowing much about batteries, I presume a warm battery isn't going to last as long.
I ALSO use original equipment for safety. The cheap chargers are cheap and poorly made and unless you break cords all the time (such as reading while it's plugged in and bending the connection) a waste of money. Original cords typically last the life of the item unless you roll over them with your chair. ![]() Last edited by Tarana; 12-01-2016 at 02:47 PM. |

The Ikea charger I mentioned is not a poorly made charger. The thing to do is to look for good quality cables. The cables that tend to break most often are Apple iPhone cables. I've never broken a microUSB cable even when using my Reader while charging.
I don't buy no name USB chargers. So I'm pretty safe in that regard. I have a Sony charger, a nook charger, Apple iPhone & ipad chargers, and iKea, and some USB ports in a power cube as well as the USB ports from the laptop and the USB port on the Surface Pro 2 and the power supply has a USB port. I think I'm pretty well set for USB ports for charging. |

I have read of problems with USB-C when it doesn't meet the spec. Cables that are not properly wired can damage your device.

Cables that are not properly wired can set your computer on fire, if they screw it up badly enough. USB type C cables can have a lot of power flowing through them, and if they, or the device at the far end, is not actually remotely ready to deal with it, it can be smoke time. The 100W charging capabilities now here with USB 3.1+ makes it even more important to get this stuff right (but vendors won't).

Sorry Curmudgeon, I wasn't implying that Ikea was poorly made. It's good that you posted that it was a good charger for those with an Ikea close by or when they are already ordering.
I'd like to find a fast charger that is part of a power strip. Do those exist? |
