If you bought a book from BoB and get "Page Error!" on Reader, contact the support. They will contact the distributor, request a fixed file from them and notify you when a new version is available. Or you can get a refund.

so, has anyone found a solution to this?
i've kept searching for a way to fix those epub books i downloaded but the soft hyphens keep showing up. I also tried converting the .epub file using the newer version of calibre with any2epub. I was converting from epub to epub but the soft hyphens were still there. any more ideas? maybe a epub creator i can use to edit these epub files or an "xhtml soft hyphens remover"? i'm downloading abode indesign to see if i have any luck with it, i'll keep ypu al informed, cheers! |

open a ticket and attach your problem file. I can easily add an option to any2epub to remove soft hyphens.

The correct solution to this problem is to implement support for automatic hyphenation. The algorithm should take into account any existing soft hyphens, of course.

Like opening many files one by one and replacing characters. Try this: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/bkreplace.html Nowadays I do not use the wonderful bkreplaceem program, I write a macro in vim (or just type a few commands). If you are not a vim wizard the BK Replace 'em program is the best choice on Windows. |

IT WORKS!!!!!! IT'S ALIIIIIIIVE, IT'S AAAAALIIIIIIIIVEEEEEEE....
Finally it's working perfectly. I downloaded the last version of Calibre and converted the .epub file to another epub file (so epub to epub, yeah) and it removed the softhyphens perfectly, it completelly viewable. I'm allready starting to enjoy this, thanks a lot kovidgoyal. there is only small small problems, and that is for the "compsed words", sorry, i dont know their name in english and for the Author of the books. but for example: "He hung up his black-beetle-coloured helmet" shows up as "He hung up his black-?beetle-?coloured helmet" So there are some question marks after those "-", but at least it's completelly readable. The problem with the authors is that I write down the authors information when converting the book inside calibre, but when i latter add it to the "Sony eBook Library" it shows up as "Unknown" no matter how i try it. Might be a configuration problem, so i'll look more into it. thank you very much-o Last edited by gonzule; 10-09-2008 at 10:32 AM. |

Ok, here's what i've found on the "Unknown" author thing.
I extracted the .epub file and edited the "metadata.opf" file and found that there is no info on the author. <package xmlns="http://www.idpf.org/2007/opf" version="2.0" unique-identifier="calibre_id"> <metadata xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xmlns ![]() <dc:title>Fahrenheit 451</dc:title> <dc:creator opf:role="aut">Unknown</dc:creator> <dc:contributor opf:role="bkp" opf:files-as="calibre">calibre (0.4.92) [http://calibre.kovidgoyal.net]</dc:contributor> <dc:identifier opf:scheme="calibre" id="calibre_id">581498b1-6a5a-4043-8ace-9d07ca3d0047</dc:identifier> <dc:language>en</dc:language> <series_index>1</series_index> </metadata> I also found differences on the "toc.nx" file. Whe converting, i told the program to keep the original TOC or index from the source file, but it still converts it. Here is an extract from toc.nx original and converted. Original: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <ncx version="2005-1" xmlns="http://www.daisy.org/z3986/2005/ncx/"> <head> <meta name="dtb:uid" content="urn:uuid:a384c8ee-6fa1-45ec-94f5-33c751fa5c6f"/> <meta name="dtb:depth" content="1"/> </head> <docTitle> <text>Fahrenheit 451</text> </docTitle> <navMap> <navPoint id="part1" playOrder="0"> <navLabel> <text>Fahrenheit 451</text> </navLabel> <content src="part1.xhtml"/> </navPoint> <navPoint id="part2" playOrder="1"> <navLabel> <text>PART ONE: IT WAS A PLEASURE TO BURN</text> </navLabel> <content src="part2.xhtml"/> </navPoint> <navPoint id="part3" playOrder="2"> <navLabel> <text>PART TWO: THE SIEVE AND THE SAND</text> </navLabel> Converted: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <!DOCTYPE ncx PUBLIC "-//NISO//DTD ncx 2005-1//EN" "http://www.daisy.org/z3986/2005/ncx-2005-1.dtd"> <ncx xmlns="http://www.daisy.org/z3986/2005/ncx/" version="2005-1" xml:lang="en"> <head> <meta name="dtb:uid" content="581498b1-6a5a-4043-8ace-9d07ca3d0047"/> <meta name="dtb:depth" content="2"/> <meta name="dtb:generator" content="calibre"/> <meta name="dtb:totalPageCount" content="0"/> <meta name="dtb:maxPageNumber" content="0"/> </head> <docTitle><text>Table of Contents</text></docTitle> <navMap> <navPoint id="3f4bb93e-442e-4895-b1f8-8dbd9686a22c" playOrder="1"> <navLabel> <text>Fahrenheit 451</text> </navLabel> <content src="content/title.xhtml"/> </navPoint> <navPoint id="bd402a7a-33ff-42f1-a5da-6db3fcdc517b" playOrder="2"> <navLabel> <text>Fahrenheit 451</text> </navLabel> <content src="content/part1.xhtml"/> </navPoint> <navPoint id="5fd3d735-7526-41b0-a054-1edd1879f69e" playOrder="3"> <navLabel> <text>Fahrenheit 451</text> </navLabel> <content src="content/part2.xhtml"/> </navPoint> The chapter names are replaced by the book's title and so they show up in the table of contents when opening the file from the sony reader. Also, the "playOrder" variable starts from "0" in hte original file and now starts from "1" (not sure if this is important). |

Already created two new tickets for this, hehe.
Also, when converting the files to epub, i chose not to use the original TOC, and it creates the chapters perfectly. I also tried this for the author problem: 1.- Add the ePub file to Calibre and edit the author information. 2.- Convert the ePub file to LRF. RESULT: The author shows up on the prs-505 and Sony eBook library. 3.- Convert the working LRF to ePub: RESULT: The author shows up as Unknown on the prs-505 and Sony eBook library. I know i should stay with LRF files, but i think ePub is a great idea and I would like to start using it on my reader, and also use it for creating my own ebooks, that way it's easier to edit them later as opossed to LRF, where you have to convert them again from the original file. So far, calibre is the only working app i've tried that works so great with ePub files. |
