Downloading from the Calibre website works very well for me. I've never had an issue.

Well now, that's interesting. This discussion got me curious, and I decided to update Calibre again to see if the Linux download is any faster than my previous experience. This time, it went through in under a minute, comparable to the Windows download.

The only thing I can figure is that for some reason, each time I tried updating Calibre in the past, I was unlucky and happened to try downloading it on a day when my internet access was slow, either at my ISP or somewhere between the Calibre download site and me. Seems rather unlikely, but hey, stranger things have happened. |

I usually download three versions of calibre - Win 64 msi, Win Portable exe, and OSX dmg - serially. I just found my down load manager's log (never knew it kept one) For the last 3 three releases, all three came down at the roughly the same speed, 1.2 to 1.5 MB/second, and each of them took less than a minute to download. I click on the first link in each of the download pages.

I copy the dmg onto a thumb drive and post it to some folks who share a slow, metered, often flaky satellite link. And they're not at the back of beyond Barnaby, they're in your frigging electorate. BR |
