I have a PW3 always in my bag with me. Also have a Voyage that stays home. I like reading on both. The PW3 cost less to replace so it's always with me when out.

It's especially not a good tablet for reading. That screen is grainy. I have one for videos and it's okay for that. I only have it because Best Buy had it on sale for $33 and I was curious. There are also a couple of games I play on it. I think of it as my disposable tablet.

A lot of people do read on Fires and there's nothing wrong with that but reading on a tablet with a better screen is a lot better reading experience.

No, I wouldn't read on that one, either. The HD6 and HD8 are good for reading on. (HD 6 has the better screen). For $69-$89 they are pretty decent. I personally don't have much knowledge about similarly priced/spec'd tablets of other brands. I do know that the Fires are a little lacking in comparison to my Nexus 7 (which is 3 years old so not a contender).

Anyway, in the summer I carry my Kobo Mini everywhere. Smaller and/or lighter is best. A comparable device would be the basic Kindle, as was mentioned above. But as far as lighter/smaller, I think the Voyage is the one that is the smallest?

(I think the Oasis is lighter, but it's so expensive, I'd not consider it.)

I have a Voyage and an original Kobo Aura. The Aura is considerably smaller than the Voyage, although they're both pretty small.

I think the solution is to buy the more expensive voyage so it'll be dearer to you and you'll keep better track of it :-)

WOW. Right now on Amazon.com (US) you can get a refurbished VOYAGE for $120. That is the cheapest I've ever seen it! I would get that over a PW any day of the week.

Booklover--that is seriously tempting! I have a Voyage, but am almost tempted to buy a backup...
Also noted that they are selling certified refurbished PW3s (the ones with 300dpi resolution) for $80. Another excellent deal!

Hmm. Do refurbs have same 30 (14?) day no question asked return? (Banner says it has same warranty)

I have a solution to my on-the-go reading problem. If I don't want or are unable to take my H2O with me, I have my phone. My phone has books on it that I can read even if it's not the same book as I'm reading on my H2O. So I always have something to read when I am out and about.

What used to do when I had a phone with limited storage was to use Dropbox to hold the books and just keep one or two on the phone. Now I have 64GB and no problem with storage.

Amazon offers a 30 day return on anything you buy from them. They do say 14 days on computers but I've returned computers after 14 days with no problems at all. While technically a Kindle is a computer Amazon doesn't treat it as one. They give it the full 30 days.

And yes, their certified refurbished Kindles have always had a 1 year warranty just like a new one. I've bought a few refurbished Kindles over the years and they're just like new ones. I currently have 4 Kindles and 1 or 2 of them are refurbished but I have no idea which. I'd have to go online to my order pages to find out.

I always have my current book on my phone. I do most of my reading on a Kindle or a Kobo and on the phone I use Moon+ to read the same books. I've found that manually syncing them isn't much different than using Whispersync with the Kindle app. I just make sure I remember which chapter I'm in at the end of each reading session and that I remember a phrase on the page I'm on and finding that on the other device is trivial. It's almost as fast as automatic syncing.

Now and then I'll forget or fail to note a chapter number and/or phrase so I have to figure it out. That doesn't happen that often but when it does it's still not that hard to find my place.

I read paperback books before I began reading ebooks and I nearly always carried my current book in my hip pocket. I never bothered with bookmarks. I just closed the book at the end of the session and looked for my place when I started reading again. With paperbacks they tended to open to the last page read anyway but sitting on the book with it in my hip pocket often changed that and I had to find it. It's not much different with ebooks.
