No, the second editions are an end run around some Amazon rules so they can have both a free version and a paid version of a book. The second edition is the paid version and includes some extras not in the free version.

Plus the electrons decided to be fascist, run on time, and become positrons. The 'Second Editions' all have something extra, afterword, second afterword, list of characters . . . Finally I can use the word 'lagniappe'. If you want to know exactly what, go to the Baen sample chapters and compare the {Table of} Contents. Usually Baen don't alter the ebook text from the original hc, 1632 second edition updates the text to that of the mmpb. Last edited by Little.Egret; 11-08-2016 at 06:39 PM. |

As the the different publishers, not that I noticed. It seems to be something a lot of Indie authors do. Going through Goodreads, I see a lot of authors who "add to" box sets or just plain use the same title for a different collection. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18955032 and https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/...ls-a-boxed-set and https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00...reative=330641 are all a box set with the same title but different content. I have seen this with other collections and a few that the author has issued an updated version of the original novel or expanded a novella to a novel length work. I just find it confusing as to why an author would continue to add to a box set. Is it a new marketing idea?? I just like to know when I go through my list of books read that it will continue to be the same book... not change next month. (yeah, getting old and stuck in my ways). |
