Thanks David for the info! It makes diagnosing the problem much more complicated when there are other problems that I'm not even aware of thanks to MS & Kobo.

Ah julia5, don't think this is the right place to post your problem. Probably should start a new thread with the info you have posted.
Update - Connected the Aura to my W8 system and David, you were correct, W8 was able to see and read the Kobo. W8 said there was a disk error and asked if I wanted to repair it, and I thought what the he "double hockey sticks" I'd try it. It worked fine and corrected the disk error so I thought I'd try to connect to the W8 version of Calibre and it worked and I added some books. Did get a pop up that said it didn't recognise the firmware though (can't remember which version of Calibre it was). Anyway, encouraged by the success on W8 I retried W10A and am back to the same issue again on W10A. At least I have a partial success and can use W8 & Calibre now. |

I get an occasional request to repair when I plug one of my devices. I just let Windows fix it but so far I don't think it has ever found a problem.
The problem with Windows 10 is going to be the Anniversary Update. MS fixed this about a month after the original release. Letting Windows do its updates should solve this. |

I have the most recent (I believe) version of W10AE (1607) but it still didn't recognise the Kobo. I tried the MiniTool Partition trick and it worked perfectly. All is good now, issue solved!

Hmmm, just checked my build and it is the same as yours 14393.351 but didn't see the Aura until the MiniTool Partition trick. Maybe still a problem for some? Thanks for all your help on this one David.

In that case, I don't know what is happening. MS made a fix and I would expect it to have been installed. I don't know what the id for the fix was, so I can't don't know what to look for.
Kobo have also made a change that should work with this. They have only released the firmware for the Aura ONE and Aura Edition 2. You can safely install the update on the original Aura, but you should only use the tgz file that is in the update. |
