Have you taken pictures of each page, so a historian can take a look at those descriptions? It could be that something is in there which is not yet known. You can beforehand remove personal stuff you don't want others to read.

I don't keep a diary. I try very hard not to be noticed. (Since some time, I'm even using different user names on different forums.) I wouldn't write anything down that I'd not tell you myself. Within a few days you'll know everything there is to know about me because I won't tell you anything else.

Thank you for that idea. I had not thought about photographing the pages.

It is one of the fastest ways of getting a book 'scanned' into a computer

Set the camera on a tripod, pointing straight down (you'll need an advanced tripod with a boom; Manfrotto and other higher-end brands make those), and then just take pictures. Photographing pages one at a time with a high resolution camera gives you the best quality. Use good lighting, a good camera, and a very sharp lens.

After you're done, you can put those pictures into a document and 'print' it to PDF. While having the original diary is best, this will serve as an indestructible backup.

Scanning, instead of taking pictures will obviously also work, but it's a lot slower, and you'll have to flatten the diary on the scanner platten, which may not be good for the spine.

I will have to get a boom. I already have everything else. I take a lot of macro pictures.

Oh. Then I'm preaching to the choir. Maybe you already have a tripod where you can use the center column as a boom as shown in this picture.
