Custom fonts on Kindle Voyage?

That is a really good question, since some model / fw-5.8.5 combinations are reported to be working.

If your original intent was only to report a model / fw-5.8.5 combination that was not working for you -
Please add that to the font add-in thread, so that the maintainer will get the message automatically.
(Maintainers usually subscribe to their release threads.)

And until the maintainer returns -
Your only choice (if you want to use the font add-in) is to not run 5.8.5 until the cause of your problem is found / fixed.

Aha! A step forward! It took 3 attempts, but this finally produced a list of fonts (including the one I've copied into my linkfonts/fonts folder, ChareInk). The problem now is, I tap into /Font Overrides/Condensed/Custom, select ChareInk and a tick appears next to it. I back out to Fonts, restart the framework, and everything seems to work okay. I then go into a book, select Caecilia Condensed, and...nothing. I just get Caecilia Condensed. I can swap to any of the other "normal" fonts, too, and they will change as normal. Caecilia Condensed hasn't changed to ChareInk, though.

What a headscratcher this has been!

I had no problems remapping Caecilia Condensed to Arial Narrow.

I remapped the font and then selected:

Fonts > Restart the KF8 & KFX readers now

(You might have to select the above option instead of:

Fonts > Restart the framework now

(The font change didn't take into effect after the first swipe to display the following page.)

If it still doesn't work try remapping to Caecilia Condensed to other random fonts to exclude font issues.

My God! Finally. FINALLY! Thanks ever so much, Doitsu, this was what did the trick in the end - restarting the KF8 & KFX readers, rather than the framework, I mean. Whenever I select Caecilia Condensed now, I get ChareInk, just as I wanted.

So, I guess we can say that the font hack is working on a KV running 5.8.5 firmware, albeit by selecting slightly different options in KUAL during the process.
