Cinisajoy - I can't use manage my kindle on my desktop computer because the option to download to my K1 is greyed out. Next time I am in town I will see If I can use the K1's content manager to download wirelessly an otherwise incompatible book.
At the moment I use Kindle for PC for DRM removal. |

Either way; it's still newsworthy if Amazon has indeed ended the ability to download files for USB transfer to a K1 (given that the K1 is still registered to your account, of course). That would be new. But it still wouldn't be the end of the world as long as ebooks can still be purchased from the K1 (or delivered to the K1 via whispersync). If they can't, then that means the K1 has been officially retired as a supported device. I'm not saying that's impossible, but I find it hard to believe that such a thing would be done quietly.

Well there probably aren't that many people still actually using a K1. With manage my kindle on my desktop the option to download to my desktop for my K1 is greyed out. Later when I am able to get into town I'll see if I can wirelessly transfer a book to my K1.
It's not a major issue - I can still use Kindle for PC for DRM removal purposes. If I couldn't then I would be very angry. I just thought I would bring it to peoples attention as something to consider. |

That's what I am now doing and it's very easy to do. I had just never bothered doing it that way before since downloading from manage my kindle had been working for me.

I can confirm that downloading a book via Wi-Fi on my Kindle does work. I'm not certain if it has anything to do with the format though because I have 27 books from 2008 alone that don't work using a download cable

The download option is grayed out for those 27 books. 300 books total up till now. I'm not certain why I am allowed to transfer them wirelessly but not download them from manage my kindle. If my device is incompatible it shouldn't matter whether I am wirelessly downloading or downloading them by download cable

I had to go into town because wifi doesn't work at my house. Thats why I preferred to use the download option.

AnemicOak asked for a list of books that will no longer download via USB from manage my kindle to my K1. I didn't want to list all 300, but below is a listing of 10 books per year listed by the year I purchased them.
