Where can I try an Oasis? (UK)

I've never seen anyone using an Oasis in public here in the UK. I think I've only ever seen maybe one Voyage. (I have both of these). It's all basic Kindles and Paperwhites.

I wonder if people more often keep their expensive type kindles for use at home. Though I carry my Voyage in my purse, and read it at every doctor's appointment. Still, I don't often read it in the grocery line; I'll play solitaire on my phone instead. The time frame is too short to get the kindle out, and refresh my mind on the book.

On top of that, of course, there must be fewer of the expensive kindles around. They appeal to a smaller set of us.

That's me. My Voyage does not voyage very far, staying at home. I take my PW with me when I go out. If it should get lost or stolen, I would feel sad but not as upset as I would if something happened to the Voyage.

Interesting thought but I suspect very few "ordinary" Kindle readers have more than one Kindle, it's just that they see no reason to upgrade and are happy with the Paperwhite or Basic Kindle experience.

That falls into the second part of my comment then! The more expensive kindles appeal to a smaller set of us (*because* they are more expensive). My growing-older eyes need to additional clarity of the Voyage's print. I have a basic kindle too, but only for the rare in-bed reading. The Voyage gets read at least 2 hours most days; usually 5-6 hours on weekends.

Amazon disagrees with you (and, in fact, so do several posters here, regardless of your attempt at argument by repeated assertion). This is the first e-reader or indeed book of any kind that I can read truly one-handed: I don't know about you but I can't turn the pages of *paper* books one-handed, but with the Oasis it's easy.

Frankly I'd prefer it if the Oasis was a bit more of a downgrade than it is -- I want a proper hardwearing plastic cover like the lower-end Kindles rather than oh-so-gougeable oh-so-premium paper-thin leather, particularly given that it's not practically replaceable.

It's a ridiculous amount of continued exaggeration. Not only does Amazon consider it their premium Kindle, anyone who is given the two would think so too.

I've tried them both, and while the Voyage is an evolution of their standard line, the Oasis attempts to change how people feel about the device by redesigning the shape and other aspects of it. Just because one doesn't agree with the redesign doesn't mean it's not the product that is considered to be the premium one.

Not that it matters anyway. The only reason to go on and on about it is if one wants to proclaim they have the best, which is a rather narcissistic, thus silly, reason to do so.

Well someone did get an Oasis over the holidays in my book club. I was finally able to see one in person. I liked it, I really liked the buttons, and that I could switch hands. I did see the scalloped lights on one side. I'm not sure if I could adjust to it or not. The person who owned it said that she did over time. The gradient wasn't bad at all, and I know I can adjust to that too.

I wish they would continue with the buttons on the Oasis and what ever Kindles are made in the future. Everyone in the book club agreed. I'm not in the market for a new e ink right now, since I have both Voyage & PW3. I may get an Oasis in the future. It was nice to finally see one without ordering it.

I ordered one from John Lewis but sent it back. I loved its shape and size but for its price the screen has to be perfect and it wasn't. I had, for me, a quite bad gradient.

I had 2 Oasis devices that I returned. Both screens had a mile gradient, but significant shadows and cones of light on the side which I could not get used to. My Voyage has a better screen with a very minor gradient hardly noticeable unless looking for it and better contrast. Overall I like the Voyage better, including the convenience of the origami case that allows you to read while eating and gives the device better protection.

I agree the scalloped lights on the side would have had me send it back , if it were mine. I'm not sure if there is a difference between the scallop lights for each Oasis. The screen seemed pretty good, almost like my Voyage, only that it had a lighter font. The biggest improvement I saw were the buttons, and how light it was to hold, without the cover on. My reading club has mostly kindles, Paperwhites, Voyages, and other older kindles and Kobos. Everyone liked the buttons most of all and how light it was too.
